This Time Around

Yeadon Public Library midday

We gather in
the library to form
We form to re-gather
energy together

It’s gonna be
a block party

Youth passes out
blue forms and cheers
us into field action

Of twelve, two are alike
ex-school teachers
neat in pants with
matching accessories
and history—how block
captains and unity
have failed--we know it all
except how this youth works

She is standing big, tall
her black eyes flashing smiles
She is talking research, footnotes
She is asking for our stories
She is seducing us to join
in hope once more
that She is not
a return to some
great past

It’s gonna be
a block party

My blog poems are rough drafts.

Wonderful heart-lifting, to gather in unity and hope in such times as these. I feel my energy for hope has deserted me. It is all so horrifying.

Thank you. This took me back to the "good old days" in my neighborhood.

The she may well be a he that we've been given doses of recently! Trump may well live up to what he said but many are skeptical!

It's great when stories are welcomed, even better when they are taken into consideration... We can only hope.

"She is seducing us to join / in hope once more" of course 'hope' is always there...

Sometimes we need to gather to offer strength and hope. I have been feeling a bit challenge by current events. We can never give up on hope!

This is beautiful, both in words and image ❤️ we need to come together and offer each other hope and strength especially in times like these. Beautifully penned.

Lots of love,

Wait long enough and we will shine - libraries always were full of the greatest personalities stuck underneath those awkward minds..

This gives an optimistic picture, Susan. It sounds empowering, and I think we need to think of being empowered once again.

I enjoyed the sense of re-gathering to gain strength in unity of a block party. I enjoyed thispoem, Susan.

That was interestingly enjoyable to read, many themes surface for me.

I thought I picked up on an interesting vibe in this piece ...

a kind of tired "same old-same old" - juxtaposed against

a "keep-going-and-maybe-things-will-be-done-differently-this-time".

For me, it mirrored a lot of people's state of mind, these days ... rather worn down and tired of it all and yet, what is to be done - other than trying to muster up some enthusiasm and go at it again.

An awesome and apropos post, Susan.

It's been a long time since I went to a party like this. Mind if I join in?
