Pushing for Ever, It Seems

source

Why?  Why?  Why?

Hear me call now and then again, though You
may never answer.  We will peddle fast
and faster, trying to keep balanced, though
we stand on balls instead of bicycles.

Why?  Why?

We go nowhere it seems, swimming against
the tide—and yet we’re still alive, hamsters
in giant wheels.  Or dancing bears on balls
and circus clowns.  Or mystic activists.

Why?

Pause here and feel the tide against our lives.
Here lies the only answer offered us.
They push against our tide.  We are the ones
belonging to the future.  Peddle on

Because

"Ain't it So", sometimes.
Great because we all can relate

Yes, we just have to keep peddling on.... I do hope we can peddle fast enough and do not become weary. We cannot stop peddling or we will be taken over by the current of circus clowns and orange men. It is urgent......because.....

Poets all over the world are recording 'this time' silently in words.." We are the ones belonging to the future."...the work is being done...

We have just that choice. Standing still we will be crushed be wheels. But sometimes we just need some rest.

And paddle we shall. Together. Because the future--the wonderful and the terrible--can't be without us. So we might as well work towards better.

Pushing to survive is a struggle. We may never know the exact reason why we push ourserlves,,.. just because 😀

Peddle on we must - the hamster reference and image of walking on circus balls did make me smile - sometimes that is good in not so good times

There is not much alternative so enjoy it the best you can for perhaps next year you will recall how good this year was.

Yes, we must continue to peddle on, in a positive way, to continue to stand for what we believe in, not letting anyone push us around. Such a timely poem, Susan.

What a wonderful poem. I hear it as truth, as proclaiming hope, also as acknowledging our responsibility to "keep peddling" and own our future. Great words Susan. I love this poem.

Haha You got that right! Keep moving, I see the light. Sometimes dim and sometimes bright.
Light a candle :)

A unique "take" on the only choice left to people of conscious - to keep going/peddling. This is so eloquently drawn that it is very visual ... and very powerful ... and really, very stirring.

There are many such forces that impact on us but one has to take the challenge and move on! Very true Susan!

oh i do like the why? because!
so frustrated as a child, questioning, questioning... but not able to grasp the real answer. 'because' had to do, at the time...
