The largest cymbal in the day’s dance band,
Sun beams love at us,
proud to empower
life even when most silent and hidden.
We who dream like cats in its beams grumble
but follow them window to window, cha-
cha-cha-ing to keep up with the spotlight.
How do we look from a
distance? we ask,
but no answers come from the ensemble
busy attending to its conductor.
Does Sun lead? Who cues the sun? we wonder.
Performance speeds on number to number.

ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting perspective - cool question, how do we look from a distance? LOVE it being "the largest cymbal in the day's dance band" !
ReplyDeleteStrangely we always think of the Sun as some sort of servant pandering to our needs whereas the opposite applies and we are beholden to its whims.
ReplyDeleteWhat an imaginative view you've created, Susan! I enjoyed this!
ReplyDeleteWow...unique observations and captivating, imaginative writes...love the cymbal-dance. Smiles.
ReplyDeletehypnotized by the sun, absorbing its energy to survive the day. we follow the sun, though sometimes we think it follows us
ReplyDeleteI like the sun represented as a crashing powerful cymbal ...Who cues the sun? That subject has been and will be hotly debated forever:)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the largest cymbal in the dance band. So very true. And when this 'cymbal' is bright it can make our day. And yes, I too wonder how we look at a distance from the sun......if the sun can see us at all with all the other objects in the sky!!

Ah. I love your thoughts here. So unique to think of the sun as the cymbal. I love you cha-cha-chaing to stay in the spotlight - the warmth of the sun. And that conductor, she sure knows how to make music.

ReplyDeleteA really inventive metaphor, well carried through--certainly makes me crave some! Thanks, Susan. k.
