Ocean, Love*

Dearest,
to live in love and not in war
I need your help recognizing right now
the miracle of breath, pulse and heartbeat.

The veins of blood that carry oxygen
and its by-products in and out of us
swarm with the miracle, are full of love.

Each molecule delights in moving strength
along its way, each gene enjoys its work
to sing and echo through each ocean shell.

Don’t you believe me?  Why shouldn’t the sea
take pleasure in life’s stubborn persistence
and show it roaring, churning, laughing in song?

You quote the storms to me, but I recall
and celebrate instead the day to day
low tide and high, sure as our dearest love.

Poem 10 for April inspired by
Richard Rohr's Daily Meditation and Minerva's B&B.

*Note:  All April poem-a-day poems are rough drafts awaiting revision.
