Window dressing

At Ella's Edge today, Ella shared a quote by Coco Chanel:

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

Ella asked us to write a poem inspired by this quote, and, as usual, the sky is not even a limit.  I stay domestic and welcome you to my world, its skies and its window fashionings.  Posted at Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads.

green leaves commune with bent bamboo and birds
fresh air and traffic separate neighbor trees
peace waits in line

however absent the red blossoms, hummingbirds
hover and bless the way

together now: turtle-potted begonia, porcelain-white
water bowl, big and little kitties, inside and outside,
crisp leaves and neighbors’ toys

hold on to the heat as temperatures fall

become mine what once was thine
when royalty exits
little ones sit up

house plants watch snow fall on evergreens
near the church they have never attended
but hold in the light

of seasonal holidays and circles of warmth

imitations aid memory
of what comes next--
never yesterday

  1. This is a lovely view into your world, Susan. I adore the hummingbird, and these lines are perfectly phrased:

house plants watch snow fall on evergreens
near the church they have never attended
    but hold in the light

  7. This is simply brilliant and I LOVE the photos of your wonderful windows....you have inspired me. I have a bay window hung with prisms and lights.....but what I need are some green hanging plants to lend me their green thru the winter, and to enjoy the soft light. Yup! They're on the list!!!!!!
