Predicting Storms

study of heads by Antoine Watteau (1684-1721)

Read her forehead to be forewarned.  Easy!
She can only keep secrets from herself.
Don’t ruin her surpriseWhen she knows what
she feels, she’ll let you know, and how!  Queasy?
Breathe through the fear until you reach delight.
She’s a provocateur; she can’t help it.
She stirs the pot but tastes every bit
of the soup herself searching for insight.
And then, wild horses couldn’t keep her
from spilling the beans—no censure can stop
her but-But-BUT questions through quivering lips,
childlike eagerness and naked pleasure.
Fault her for being American bold
but not for transparent truth uncontrolled.

  2. Not surprised Sherry is tired: those magnificent interviews must take it out of you. Lots of work.

Susan, nice, these word sketches of the childlike Agent provocateur, french more I would have thought.

  3. Doesn't matter how much warning one gets there is no adequate preparation for this kind of storm.

And what a brilliant character sketch. Your words breathe life into her.

  12. I like the last lines too. It's true, you can't fault her for being honest. But maybe her honesty hurts when she stirs the pot to taste it so much. Anyway, I like your take on the inner storm that some can predict.

  14. transparent truth would be refreshing...if she is being honest to herself...how can she not be as beautiful as a deer in the woods...a horse in the plains...

  17. Susan,

She seems like a person best avoided...I knew a 'friend,' once, who had many of those traits!!!
