Let Me Stay

I must have pulled the blanket up during the night
the one weighted on me past dawn, hugging, holding
clinging oh-let-me-stay my shawl to the window
where it continues over road and hedge and cars
as the heavy white laid down while I slept deeply.

I love these moments of unbroken mood, textured
in every substance, drenching all in mystery.
I float in it down the stairs to slow motion morning
routines and see even the minute and second
hands of time dancing to its warm and loving grace.

Knowing this blanket will melt into the daytime
I drink deeply, beaming thank you into pale day.

  5. There is something about a warm blanket, whether metaphorical or actual. And sometimes a person really does want to carry that warm blanket with them throughout the day!
