On the Journey

Blossoms, fruits, and leaves of the apple tree.

She met a tree who called her name and let
her climb for vision and sour apples.

She met a mixed-breed pup whose loyalty
and love knew no bounds in life or in death.

She met a rock that stubbed her toe without
moving from her path, without eroding.

She met a stranger who held her hand through
pain and sadness without knowing her name.

She met a man who created beauty
in sand drawings he let wind blow away.

She met a woman who increased goodness
by finding three causes for hope each day.

She met herself in a gasp of surprise
and laughter among the lines of her songs.

  1. This reminded me of Robert Frost's "The road not taken". However I think you outdid him as yours has such beautiful inspirational images.

  3. This has the feel of a ghazal about it. I like the repetitions and the thoughts that gather upon reflection of the meaning of each and all our meetings.

  4. Such beautiful, sweet and sour experiences we have during this life's journey and we learn something new every time.

  5. Oh my goodness, my new favorite of yours, my friend. I love these instances described, especially the narrator meeting herself amongst her words. This is rich with examples of evolved souls, including yours. Smiles. I like Kerry's observation that it has the makings of a ghazal. I really like the woman who thinks of three reasons for hope each day .

  6. A song of love life and learning. It reminded me of the song "By My Side" from Godspell

  7. Susan,

Your poem reminds me too of words from a song; back 'in the day,' when songs carried a sincere message eg Janis Ian and Seventeen...
Enlightenment seems to be short in too many areas of life, especially public office these days!!
A great prompt with endless possibilities,

  11. I like to think the woman's best meeting/surprize was with herself and how she re-evaluated the other meetings thru life...~ Love the line 'She met a tree who called her name' - made me stop and ponder of many meanings here....maybe she was needed to pay attention...

  13. I am grinning so hard right now that my face hurts. The first line made squeal (at 11:05 pm) and the rest just added to my joy. I want to dance "to the lines of her song". !

  15. It's good that from childhood she could read the letters of wisdom written on the pathway of her life. Her vision is clear, she has found herself and I like to believe she is an enlightened soul capable of inspiring others...a beautiful poem Susan...

  18. It's amazing what you can find (or who) 'out there'...finding three good reasons for hope each day is a really good practice...almost alters your perception of what otherwise might be considered a bad day

  19. ''She met a stranger who held her hand through
pain and sadness without knowing her name.''

Many times, in my own life, I have been blessed to have had the kindness of strangers, assist me in unexpected situations. Haven't we all? And haven't we all, ( as I would like to believe), done the same for others?

A sweet song, Susan, with happy harmonies of strangers helping strangers, which always makes for a merry tune in life's many ditties.
