Revelation

Nature is a revelation of God;
Art a revelation of man.

Taking the covers off
as sun lifts fog,
as silence sifts shushes
as low tide shows seashells.

Retelling the epiphany ~
that instant Light appeared
and will again return
dawn after dawn, day after night.

What was never hidden
that only ripening reveals?
What have you hidden from
yourself? from me? from all?

Lay it bare slowly, slant
it like Emily’s truth**
revelation might hurt
like poison from too much to drink.

Meet me at choir practice where
we will find notes to ripen words
to tones that root our feet to earth
and lift our heads to skies above.

Reach up, lay bare, open and show
invisible presence inside
and out, repeat repeat
and resonate, resound.

  3. slowly, gradually revealing the light, the soul of the word in such beautiful and amazing imagery... "Lay it bare slowly, slant / it like Emily’s truth** / revelation might hurt / like poison from too much to drink." done so poetically...not only this stanza but all of them, quoted it as my favorite...

  14. I adore the first stanza very much, Susan. It gave me a relaxing feeling actually - and a hopeful one at that. Revelation always has its pros and cons as you have perfectly stressed out.
