Mice Elves, Thank You for the Rock

"Thank You Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again"

Grateful for music of identity
and unity—of beat and pride and funk,
of Cuba, New Orleans, of Brown and Sly
and more—that changed the face of the dance floor.

Mice elves and ourselves, still predator
and prey, came close enough for cross over
and curiosity to play.  Minds set
to fight or fly paused to face new light.

Black power showed oppression’s source and scared
the powers in control to dirty fights
with drugs and guns, set-ups and tightened locks
on lowered ceilings—yet music still flowed.

Mice elves changed minds and shifted borders so
underground forces continue to roll
in rock that’s deep within united souls,
this rock of ages where love can grow.

It helps rekindle that winning streak of love and care that makes the world go round. One is most lucky to be chosen to savor such things! Rightly so Susan!

    1. For you, Mary, and everyone else who must be wondering, I put in the title of the song, "Thank You Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again," which is a joke on how people hear the words slurred together.

  15. Even with the explanation, it's a bit beyond me too, in other ways. I think the allusions must be very USA.

  17. As a child I used to mis-hear song lyrics all the time and I had very weird ideas about what the songs were about. I still appreciated the music, though... :-)
