Money clinks, crinkles and fans
Whether real or counterfeit
10% or all of it
Money is sight, touch and sound
Money is scarce, not enough
to go around.
Believe that? Here’s another:
Money won’t help our brothers
It’s worthless in a shipwreck
when there’s not enough water
to drink, but plenty to sink—
Look all around.
Invisible value lives
underneath: hands that make beds
eyes and voices that read lines
ears that listen, arms that open
and trade that could yet be best —
Blessings abound.

What an ugly people we have become where once money was paid for work done or services given but now there are all these dark passages where money is syphoned away and untaxed meaning the lower paid pay far more tax in proportion than those with millions. However it is of course in the country's interest...isn't it!
ReplyDeleteBoth of your observations about money are true. More to the point: despite money or the lack of it, blessings abound (as you also point out).
ReplyDeleteA profound piece of writing
ReplyDeleteI love the "blessings abound." And all the helping hands, and ears that listen, eyes that read.
ReplyDeleteenjoyed the poem very much... truths are weaved into the words... blessings require no currency just an open heart... cheers :)
ReplyDeleteIt is best to have the blessings of helping hands, friendship, love that none at all, only what is paid for and not freely given. Excellent!

Clever comment with a touch of your humor. Good one Susan!

By the time people realise that and exit the rat race..it can be too late! Well said Susan.
ReplyDelete'Blessings abound' yet we often do not have the heart or intellect to realize that. Thus such miserable condition of this world. You couldn't have said it more perfectly. Simply brilliant!
ReplyDeleteIt's so easy to take things for granted. Money isn't everything. A good write.
ReplyDeleteI have know the time, when there wasn't enough, and know it is very welcome, like a long lost friend, at those times. Money can save a life, but it isn't love unless given away.
ReplyDeleteWonderful insight, Susan! I know I don't want money to be everything, but sometimes it feels like it is. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh Susan, you stole my heart with this piece, when you compared water to drink and sink.
ReplyDeleteCheers
