After An Evening With Friends

After fudge and cream on brownies, after
the last delicious kiss goodnight,
after the train deposits you
a mere half mile away—
you walk. The door opens
and closes. Then,
do you, too, sigh,
perk up, rally to spend
time with yourself at last,
to catch up on quiet and joy?
Home’s divine solitude settles
like gold dust, surrounds like Bach cello suites.

  1. Me, too, indeed...

I love the way you describe the solitude we choose, how it is as warming as the sunniness of yellow gold, as enthralling as the melody that dances out of our favorite instrument, how it is so personally divine.

  3. There's a time for all things: a time for being with friends, and a time for exploring the soothing depths of solitude. (Most of the time I prefer the latter.)

  4. Loved this poem A wonderful sense of'nice to be home'collapsing into a comfy chair, feet up ,listening to Bach and how blessed you are to appreciate Bach. In music circles Bach is considered to be the voice of the Divine.I think he is.

  9. Can only sigh, at the things that we want, but can never have. Especially, I will never be able to taste brownies, upon my lips, ever again. Darn food allergies.

  11. I totally relate. There's no place I enjoy more than home and though I have a husband, he gets me and knows my solitude time is sacred.
