Step Ten: Consciousness

Calling all enemies!  Calling all here
and now so we can love you to pieces.

At first, tentatively, tender to fear
that we will give you wings instead of ground.

Calling our fears!  Calling you here so we
can love you, hold you and win you over—

“Hold your friends close and enemies closer.”
We have neglected you.  Come and let’s drink

the milk of human kindness.  Let’s find it
together, this lost art of dis-arming.

Let's take it on our tongues and drink it in—
resolve to leave deserts of violence.

Calling all violence!  Calling all here
into the circle of community.

We center love, experience courage,
take a small step and then, yes, recognize

love grows.  The Divine Gift, it flows. Water
and milk and air and blood. The spirit knows.

  1. "The spirit knows". This is a fitting tenth step: consciousness. Waking from the nightmare of fear, violence and war to love. Wow. This is a truly inspiring poem.

  2. "Come and let’s drink

    the milk of human kindness."

...what a way to honor the Bard's words to reach the ultimate destination of each soul...yes, the spirit knows...and i echo Sherry's last line...
