Everything has been given and received.
If air-life-love is too enormous to see,
I will carve out a little piece of it
to wrap and place under the Christmas tree.
I will shape an artifact of the Light
as precious and pure as a saint’s relics.
Like—a kite made of paper and bamboo,
covered with these words and strung with my breath
one we fly up to the expanse of your
limitless existence, that we hang on
the wall to remind you of air-life-love
Or like—a candle whose wick is ever-
lasting to spread Light beyond gravity
and show that the reality is there.

Oh yes, please count me in: wrap up some light and especially, some [fresh] air for me. Sounds a bit like a piece of wedding cake that people get sent.
ReplyDeleteBut make it less stale, on the part of the fresh air, and hold the Marzipan.
Lovely playful but serious piece, Susan.
I really like the opening line - everything has been given & received. And then you progress to making allowances for the person who isn't grateful for their God-given gifts. This is powerful stuff. The pointed irony, the forgiveness. Really like this.
ReplyDeleteThere are few things more important than air, life, and love; and I really like the idea of a candle with an everlasting wick. (A sort of eternal flame.)
ReplyDeletenice...i like the second stanza the kite...wrapped in paper and these words...i like how you attach it to what you are saying like that....the repetition of air-life-love and how those interact with the kite, the wick...nice piece...
ReplyDeleteSusan...marvelous...how simple words wrap so much thoughts....loved it...
ReplyDeletenice... sometimes it just needs those little pieces to keep us sane... that make us feel the wind and see the light...love the images you use susan esp. the kite image is so powerful
