Believe Me

File:Friendship love and truth.jpg
 Currier & Ives

When I tell you I believe you
I am not talking about faith
There has been no leap, my feet hold.

Grounded in my experience
I know you and thus I trust you.
Believe me.

I can’t believe I said that! O
How easy to say believe—like
Love—a word overused when not.

Acted or lived—never over-
I’m done using words not born from
Experienced relationship.

You need not believe me.  Come here
If you wish.   Come closer to me
I  won’t shield myself from you.

  2. So true that words like 'believe' and 'love' are much overused. I like your last stanza....where it seems people approach one another, if they wish to know and be known. It is a choice but is not dependent on either 'love' or 'belief.'

  3. interesting line breaks especially on the overused when not. it gave me a pause and thus realizing the impact of those words. trust is such a big word in our daily lives.

  5. good for you...we def overuse love...and label things that are far from it, as it...and we seldom say how we really feel if we are honest...probably in many ways because we have become so politically correct...

  6. There are words that are overused.. still they have such a strong meaning.. i think showing rather than tell is what's needed....

  7. Trust...so important in relationships. I like the conversational slant of this, Susan. Direct and open and honest.

  9. Wow! "I'm done using words not born from experienced relationship." Also, it takes courage to not shield ourselves from others. Thought provoking lines, Susan.

  10. Defiance of superficiality in favor of what's real. Sadly, in my enthusiasm and lack of vocabulary, I tend to use the word love too much.

  13. Written words can be so beautiful and yet hurtful too. Spoken words can have quite a different meaning too. I wonder whether cavemen had grunts of anger and soothing loving ones too? But there so much of us speaks..especially eyes!

  15. I like "I'm done using words not born from experienced relationship". I have often thought that people talk too loosely nowadays. Nothing wrong with talking! It's just hard to separate the sincere from the polite pleasantries.

  16. Love the use of word 'believe'. I'm, personally, trying test the believe by heart...
