Commitment

There is in eyes a “yes”
that tears and spills at joy
and fear and sorrow too.

Your eyes say “Yes, I do
love you” and I say true
“I love you more. “  I do.

The “yes” we share takes no-
one by surprise but us
whose bodies have said "no."

Let lips say what eyes do.
Let all witnesses bless
this everlasting "yes."

  1. A clever use of words and throughout i was nodding yes and yes and yes! How much easier to either dodge the question or unthinkingly say no..

  10. Susan,

I think we hope that the eyes are not lying and that the yes is honest and sincere. I've had to instil within my children, the importance of the right to also say NO, if yes is not appropriate, nor is the desired response.Eyes can say so much, but they can also be shifty. Perhaps I have borne witness once too often to insincerity..
