White red and
black foxes
pose on red black
and white dresses
worn by humans
with black white and red hair
Composed calm as
checkers
or chess pieces on
black and white
The gowned figures
are oddly accusatory
Look at the
camera
they whisper one more
minute and
then we'll let you
go and set ourselves free

Oh that last line is superb Susan! Freedom comes in so many forms. Love your lovely poetic take on the photo! So glad it was a pleasant diversion for you. I have been finding myself writing more these days, with more time and much on my mind. A boat we all are rowing right now. ๐๐
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE the closing stanza, would love to see the foxes scampering away as fast as their foxy little feet could go.
ReplyDeleteThere is that lingering sense that every one of them would run back into the forest after the photo. I liked the way each line felt like a chant.
ReplyDeleteLove the checkers and chess comparison .... nice write.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for freedom...

ReplyDeleteHow I would love to know the story behind this photo. Who dreamed of locating the 3 diverse-colored foxes and dressing the ladies in similar tones and then mixed them all up! Was it the clever photographer, I wonder. Nevertheless, I like your interpretation!
Love that last line, Susan!
