A Shoemaker's Magic

A Pair of shoes, van Gogh (1886-87)

Where are the shoemakers whose art
could help all of us walk the walk
of preserving the earth, in part
and whole, practice greater than talk?

They would strengthen muscles and speeds
of troubadours who visit places
small and green with different needs
unique to earth’s many faces.

They would unite those who spread news
of who’s doing what works and how.
They'd help transform weapons into tools,
and troops into transformers, now.

Where are the shoemakers whose arts
steer us to paths that suit us, too,
so we each find our role as a part
of finding love in human hearts?

  1. Ah, I wish there was a shoemaker who could make us those kind of shoes............shoes for walking gently on the earth, for walking with our fellow creatures in peace. Lovely, Susan.

  2. Wishing there would be magic shoemakers who would be able to accomplish all of these things - or even only one of them! A fascinating concept.

  3. "They'd help transform weapons into tools,
and troops into transformers, now."... Truly magical it would be. Aah....where are they? Such magic shoemakers are the need of our times. So lovely, Susan.

  4. Like Sumana, I too love these lines" transform weapons into tools, / and troops into transformers, now...." how badly we need that magic right now...

  5. Oh for a magic shoemaker, Susan! I can never find comfortable shoes and, when I do, they don’t last as long as I’d like them to. I love the thought that their shoes would
‘steer us to paths that suit us, too,
so we each find our role as a part
of finding love in human hearts’.

  7. Susan, you are so right, a lost art. I had a cobbler friend back in my NYC days, made bespoke men's shoes. This is just the type of profession that may be lost forever, in this age of point-and-click design. Thank you for the reminder!

  9. I love the questions you ask here and the shoes you imagine. Maybe it is that we have to make our own shoes. Suzanne - Wayfaring blog - Wordpress

  10. Susan,
It would certainly feel like a much safer world, if it were possible to find a world leader who could craft peace and happiness...we'd love to walk within such an offering...an excellent topic prompt..
