twilight
two lights
not half light
but double light
a holding together, a junction of radiance and absence of sun
the length of a memorable hug at 40 degrees North
when we two are together
and there are no shadows
a promise of becoming vine and tree
of give and take
becoming tree and vine
kissing in peace and unafraid
twilight, two lights
the length of a Christmas gift
as night falls, as day comes
hearts beat like soft drums.
For my prompt "Twilight" at What's Going On?

I like it
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful, Susan, the two lights, the promise of becoming tree and vine. The hearts beating like soft drums. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you look at the word "Twilight" with all its tenderness, light and strength. My favorite lines :
ReplyDelete"not half light / but double light". I feel we all wish to live in that space of being "unafraid" and "peace".
Such a soft and caring poem. I checked and found that 40 degrees north passed through your area. I love the imagery, the thoughts, and especially the gentle ending!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful ending to your wise and clever poem - seasons greetings - Jae
ReplyDeleteA wonderful poem, Susan, in perfect balance with the duality of twilight, balancing on the fulcrum of the solstice and the magic of Christmas...
ReplyDeleteThat sure sounds like a memorable hug. 👏
ReplyDeleteSusan, I admire your thoughts, complex to me, I could never have written this. Thank you for coming up with it and your prompt. I enjoyed writing to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is clever, and gorgeous, Susan!
