Whether I call the Name or not
Whatever you call God will do
And Jesus is a Friend to Truth
In your smile lives the face of God
I speak to that of God in you
Who speaks to that of God in me
And together feel the Presence
Let’s wash our feet down at the stream
Let’s prepare our food together
Tell me about your Way and I
Will tell my story to you too
My friend, I hold you in the Light
On your way day and night, I pray
You to Trust in God, have no fear
You to Trust in God, have no fear
Pray for me too that Way is clear
It’s joy to meet a passerby
Intent upon his business
But let me learn to talk to Friends
With whom I feel a difference
Pray me the strength to stay, not seek
Quick egress and easy Meetings
Pray all see God in each other
Quick egress and easy Meetings
Pray all see God in each other
When new Truths arise among us
Friends of Truth hold me in the Light
Whether I call the Name or not
Whatever you call God will do
And Jesus is a Friend to TruthI put this tone poem in Poets United Poetry Pantry # 162 .
it is a nice interaction...the sitting down to hear each others truth...the washing of the feet... it seems all too oft that no two truthes are the same...even for those that claim the same god...buts yours is a path of understanding...
ReplyDeletei remember this one...smiles. happy sunday susan....
DeleteIt is slightly revised for rhythm (as per Rosemary's note below).
DeleteSome friends are god sent and with them we feel connected since yore:)
ReplyDeleteoh yes!
DeleteA very prayerful posting today, Susan. And yes, Jesus is certainly Friend to Truth.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary. I treasure your poems and your visits.
DeleteIt's like a prayer and engaging one too.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Thank you!
DeleteThe message here is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Talon.
DeleteSusan, I think you know I attended Meeting. Thank you for the worship this morning. I miss Meeting, but I know Friends are everywhere if we are open and take the time to look and listen. I am so glad I found my way here. It is good to visit with Friends. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI know now. The meeting I belong to, CPMM, is asking me to attend again, which I haven't done in years--at least not there. The request is entering my prayers for discernment(See my next poem too). I agree with you that it is good to visit Friends. Thank you, too.
Delete"Shavath ~ Sabath-ing" is the title of the 8/11/2013 poem.

ReplyDeletevery comforting peaceful words.........
amen.may our prayers be heard and may we find peace.
ReplyDeleteAmen.This is excellent. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful. Such a loving prayer for Friends. "Jesus is a friend to truth." Loved every word of this, Susan.
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful and strong. As a Pagan who loves Jesus, thank you for the third line! :) The measured rhythm helps make this such a powerful piece. You lose that rhythm somewhat in 4th and 6th verses. Hope you don't mind me saying, I would love to see you play with those verses a bit more to get them to match the strength and dignity of the rest.
ReplyDeleteThere's a little Pagan in all of us, I think, watching out for the child-within. I see/hear what you mean in verses 4 and 6. I will definitely work through a few revisions though I am leaving it rough for now. Thank you so much for liking this poem enough to point out its flaws.
DeleteCouldn't resist tweaking it at once! But it's not done.
DeleteBetter, though. :)
DeleteThanks! A returnee!!
