This Moment

Elbow near her water
bowl on the radiator,
I face this white screen
and cat drinks, rests her head and
snores gently, then laps again.

  5. I enjoyed the serenity of your poem, Susan. I do not have a cat but I like to have the dog near me when I am on the computer.

  6. Like the best of writing, it captures a moment of recognition - something tender we've felt and observed before... Thanks for this Susan... With Best Wishes Scott www.scotthastie.com

  9. Thank you all for leaving finger and toe prints in the sand here. This is where and how I have come to read and write poetry in these last 18 months.

  10. A Cat's life revolves within the house proper. One sees a dog kennel outside the house but never a cat's. That's why they can survive batter irrespective of having 9 lives! Nicely Susan!

  11. Nice capture, Ssan. Our critters rule! And Happy Hanukkah! It's a beautiful festival of light, family and hope. (As you can see, though I'm an eclectic Christian and delight in our Jewish roots.)

  15. Hey Susan--I came and visited in the middle of my work day and didn't get to comment. Amazing how we try to make a mark while the animal kingdom is pretty clear that eating, drinking and you know what really should just about cover it! You don't see them mucking around with computers! Except to have fun. And that is also part of what we do too. This is like one of those Japanese poems! Very clever, understated-- your effort nicely highlighted by the cat's enjoyment of just being. Thanks much for the moment. K.

  17. "Cat by window" could easily stand in for Pound's "The Red Wheelbarrow"-- the image and moment itself is all there is. I write every morning with our calico Belle on my lap, so I'm familiar with the silent colloquy of the scholars. - Brendan
