If love—daily basic love—had a scent
we might think of it more often, but it’s
an atmosphere we live in thoroughly
and only notice if cued or if shattered.
Small tears self-heal, like when rug edges fold
back and we don’t trip. But the rug wants to
remind us that love is there—or higher
powers want to remind us—because rugs
can’t love like live things. They can only be
used lovingly. Large tears in the fabric
of love can lose us for a scary while,
until some impetus reminds us to
touch in, sniff the air, take a deep breath, and
decide—alone or with help—to notice.
If only love had a sweet scent for us.
For Robert Lee Brewer's Day 18 prompt at Writer's Digest: For today's prompt, we have our third two-for-Tuesday prompt, which means you get two prompts, and they are: Write a love poem, and/or...Write an anti-love poem.
My blog poems are rough drafts.

No scent, unless it is the scent of spring bursting forth........or the sea air.........or cedar smells in the forest............I love "but it's an atmosphere we live in thoroughly." Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCan't love- but can only be used lovingly... that's so beautiful and is a powerful metaphor for so many people whose edges have folded or have tears...
