Storm

Growl and roll and roll until you are comfortable
while I sing a lullaby to sky and slow you to sleep.

Dear sky-bed of water and air, poisoned and fresh,
What do you most crave?  What gives you most rest?
You welcome dark and loud conversations just as you do
light and soft ones, and all sharps and flats that flow
in between.  We are grateful.  Please lay a tune

to these words as we rock this angry one to peace:

Ah, storm, howl gently now.  Here earth’s edges flood.

Elsewhere heat rises above all expectation.

Please dream love that won’t make the earth drown,

that won’t leave parts so hot they crack and frown.

You rock all life on earth, you impress us with your power.
We ask your help, and we pay attention at this late hour.
