Winter Twilight from Olana, by Frederic Church, c. 1871 |
The mountains are in my mind and my heart
even if I never see them again
we will never part. Inner life is strong
enough for that. Stronger than the present,
it fills in the details left out of sight
by outer eyes. We stand on vacant lots
and say “The house was there and there a hedge,”
and on the mowed lawn rolls a younger me.

We stand on vacant lots... so much transcends the physical and becomes just emotion. Lovely.
