The USPS

This is not a poem, it is a wail.
The USPS Has mis-routed a certified letter
containing my last mortgage payment.
They placed Pasadena, California between
Philadelphia, PA and Monroe, Louisiana.
Who will pay the mounting daily fee?
Who will water the horses?
Who is hanging out in the sun,
drinking martinis or distilled water
while postponing my hard-earned joy?

April is Poetry Month, day #27

My blog poems are rough drafts.

  1. OH NO! Of all times to lose a letter - but how wonderful that it is your last payment. Good for you! Can the bank give you anything to show you certified that payment so they can hold off penalties till it shows up? How distressing.

  2. You have your receipt. Take a photocopy of it with you. Do not provide the original until they cough up restitution.
I'd go screaming to the place you mailed it. Remind them they are responsible for any damages. this should be a joyous occasion. tax them for that too.

  4. Oh dear! But I agree with the previous comment... hope you can hold the post office responsible for the charges and more! Who will water the horses.. I like that line popping up in the middle of the poem!
